A. Open the Customize menu, select a Tab from the pull-down menu list of
Tabs or add a new Tab.
B. Select Add Link and enter a name for the new Link. Hint: To help you
remember which links are searchable, use the word “Search” in the name
of the link. E.g. Google Search or Yahoo! Search.
C. Enter the search code into the file path field of the Edit window,
replacing the portion of the code string that relates to searchable text
with the search code “:word:” (word with a colon on either side of it).
1. One fairly easy way to determine what the code should be and what to
replace with the search code is to run a search on the website you
intend to establish as a searchable link. Search on that site for the
search term “word”. After the search is done, copy the code string from
the Internet browser address bar into the file path field of the Edit
window. Where you see the term “word” in the file path, replace it with
“:word:”. This will allow you to automatically execute a search on that
site by entering the word through the DoGoNow™ interface.
2. For even more advanced users, advanced custom searches may be
performed through standard search engines by adding one or more
additional default search terms to the editable search terms of the
above search code. Do this by performing a search on the site that
includes one or more terms that you want to remain standard in future
searches in addition to the editable search term you will replace with
the term “:word:” as in 1 above. Copy the code string and paste it into
the file path field of the Edit window. Replace the term you want to be
editable with the term “:word:” as in 1 above. When the search is run,
any text in the search window will be searched in addition to the
default terms.
Tip 1: Create a searchable link for your favorite search engine if it is
not already on our list of search engines, or send us a suggestion for
additional links to include at
suggestions@left-tworight.com.
Tip 2: If you have typical information you search regularly, set up a
custom searchable link to automatically narrow the search results for
your favorite search engine with additional default search terms that
are added to your search phrase for every search.
Tip 3: If you have a particular search that you perform regularly, you
can create a custom searchable link that includes only default search
terms and no editable search terms so that the results of your default
search, which may have frequent search result changes, can be
automatically searched without re-typing the search terms into the
search engine.
Note 1: Some Internet search engines perform the searches behind the
scenes and do not display the search code. For these search engines,
where the search term does not show up in the code, custom automatic
searches cannot currently be created using DoGoNow™. Links to those web
sites, however, can be created by
establishing a General Link.
Note 2: Currently, only 20 links can be created for any tab (whether the
links are displayed or not). If you run out of space on a tab, create
another tab for additional links. |
